STAR IS BORN 2010 RESTORATION

I want to start this off by saying LOTS OF JUDY GARLAND FANS are like rabid dogs.  You cant please them not matter what. You want to run from them.

Now I myself am a fan of both the film " A Star is Born" and Judy Garland. However I am bigger fan of movies then I am of Judy Garland.

Now this restoration I was lucky to see at The "Turner Classic Film Festival".  I was an invited guest.  To me it was a thrill of a lifetime.  The film looked great.

Now there will be tons of people saying its too bright, out of focus and color seems to weird.  I will  disagree.  Its as good as it will ever get.    Judy looks great.. The film sound is great.  The only thing missing of course was 10 minutes that Ron Haver had to use stills for.  However Ron did a great job with those stills.  You also must remember that the stills are gone after the first hour.  However those stills will become a thing of the past if the Michael Arick rumors come true.  He is said to have " A complete print of the film.  Now what I am not thrilled is that Warner Brothers has not talked about the rumors.

I also want to state in the last few months I have herd from 6 people who claimed to have seen this missing footage.  I turned over the first 2 people  to The Judy Room. Hoping he could get them too talk more.

The other 4 people I think were telling the truth about seeing the footage.  One claims to have seen the film at a private Christmas party in 1974 at some theater in Beverly Hills. The 2 others claimed  to have seen the film on vhs. One said  he saw the film at a party in "Brentwood, CA".  One claimed he saw it in "Chicago" and my favorite was he saw the film at a lab in New York in the 1970 on the anniversary of Stonewall.  Whatever.   Were they telling the truth?  I think some were but could they have mistaken what they saw?  When I asked all of them that  one said  Mr Brentwood said "...well maybe" the others said "No"  "...I know what I saw".

I still think some if not all of this footage is still out there.  I just hope one day I get to see it.

BEHIND THE CAMERA CHARLIE'S ANGELS WITH NEW FOOTAGE...

Years ago this tv movie debut. The movie was a story about the first year of the ABC FEMALE DETECTIVE SHOW and the rise of Farrah Fawcett-Majors sex symbol.

Before the movie aired NBC had to make last minute changes to the movie before they could air the feature. One they had to re-edit the ending and Two they had to drop the original credits from the original Tv-Show. By a little luck I was able to get a copy of the original version we were meant to see.

Well seeing the original credits was great. It sets up the 1970's feel of the movie. If you were alive at the time you will be transposed back into time just by seeing those credits.

Now the ending has Farrah's manager/agent at the end and its funny. If you want to see this let me know stan39520@yahoo.com

WAS KAREN AND RICHARD CARPENTER GAY

Now I am not saying this just to make people mad. I am also a huge "Carpenters Fan" and I also happen to be gay.

Now lets be clear about this ITS OKAY TO BE GAY. Now to support the reasons why I think they were both gay is easy. In the "E true Hollywood Story" it was stated that "Richard took after his mother", and were very close. Karen " Was a Tomboy" and "a killer on the drums". She never dated much in high school but it "wasn't because she wasn't asked out".

Karen was also was forced to act more like a lady by her mother. In fact her mother hated the idea that Karen played the drums. She wanted to Karen to play something more " suitable for a lady".

Karen also had a negative body image later that didn't help matter. Later she would die from years of suffering from anorexia.

Bottom line

Richard always has know he was gay but has never dealt with it.

Karen had no idea she was gay. Both of them however did have addiction issues.

I TOLD YOU SO IN 2006 THAT CONAN WOULD BOMB

I posted this almost 4 years ago. I knew Conan wouldn't work well at 11:30. He is too strange. He is like a puppet having a seizure. I am not saying I did not like his show. It was just too much. He should of slowed down. He has been at this since 1993. I would of thought he would of learned to be a better interviewer. He still is BAD at it and by the way so is Jay.
Please note I say David Letteman would become #1 I TOLD YOU SO!!!!

Here is the post :

So it is 3 years away however Jay Leno is being semi-forced out of "The Tonight Show". NBC told Jay Leno that "They didn't want to lose Conan". In case you didn't know Conan was on the verge of going elsewhere unless he would get "The Tonight Show" soon.

I am not sure if Conan was going to sign with FOX or ABC. However NBC did not want someone to compete with "The Tonight Show" they was part of the NBC family. So Jay Leno decided to leave when his contract is up in September of 2009.

I think NBC is stupid for lots of things. They should told Conan "Good Luck". Now I am not a huge Jay Leno fan but I do like him as a person. The same goes for Conan. However I can not watch Conan interview anybody. He is jumpy. Most of the time he tries to "one up" his guest. He comes across as nervous. Jay Leno always seems to be having a good time.

Now I was tired of all of Jay Leno's "Brokeback Mountain" jokes. Those jokes went on and on for over a period of months. Enough was enough.

Conan O'Brien still needs to go to school and learn how to interview. He has good moments with his comedy bites but he still seems to try to hard. It still un-nerving to watch him and he has been doing this show since 1993? Can he get better? I don't think so. He is no "Johnny Carson". He is better than "Magic Johnson" but that not saying much!

When Conan does take over "The Tonight Show" I predict that David Letterman will once again own 11:30 time slot. He should own it now. It is the best show on late night TV.

A STAR IS BORN RESTORATION

I can not believe I have been invited to the World Premiere of the all new restoration of " A Star is Born".

In 1983 the late Ronald Haver restored the film to its (almost) original length . What people did not know at the time was the original negative wasn't restored. Even for the 1983 restoration premiere it wasn't a new print. It was a newly re-discovered NEW ORIGINAL PRINT that had the restored footage added back in.

Now Warner Brothers has re-stored the original negative and I am looking forward to viewing it.

If you have never seen the film "GO SEE IT". Its not really a musical (all though Judy does sing in it) its really a romantic drama set against the back drop of Hollywood. Its one of the best love story's ever told.

MUST SEE VICTOR VICTORIA

In 1982 Blake Edwards made a film that was way ahead of its time. The film was VICTOR/VICTORIA. I saw the film in its theatrical release however since then I have only watched it on TV. V/V was one the first widescreen laserdisc I ever bought. I had a 60 inch Big screen TV to watch it on too. However nothing compares to watching it at the movies.

The production design alone is a big WOW.

The film itself has stood the test of time. The film upon its release did garner great reviews and was nominated for Academy Awards however including Best Picture. However it lost to "Gandhi".

Its been 28 years since the film was released however I think its safe to say more people today have seen "V/V" then "Gandhi". The reason is "V/V" is loved by people once they see it. The film is meant to entertain and it does even if you have seen it 10 times.

"Gandhi" is just a substitute for a sleeping pill.

1954 VERSION A STAR IS BORN AT TCM FESTIVAL

In April the world will get to see the new restoration of "A Star Is Born". I hope the TCM-FESTIVAL will invite the family of the late Ron Haver to the screening. If it wasn't for Ron Haver the original version (aka the longer version) would be gone forever.
