Tom McBride DVD Gay Interest Life and Death On The A-List $7.00

Okay I have this DVD that I bought but for some reason I can not sell it on Ioffer.com.
$7.00 covers shipping.
stan39520@yahoo.com

This movie is a must see for any gay man it speaks to and from our very dark side. The documentary opens with the main character in his most golden and handsome state. He then gives you a glimpse of what it's like to be one of those gay men that are blessed with charm, manly beauty & intelligence. You see the privileges that are bestowed upon you by that ever so judgmental "Gay Food chain" when you are one of its superstars. One also observes the MAN that seems to have it all really does not. The protagonist in the course of the film exponentially declines in health & looks. It is interesting to note that this man could have had at one point, just about ANY man he wanted yet, when he dies their is no husband / romantically loving soul by his side. The movie spoke to me in the following way. It brought to focus that the parties; the circuit and the barrage of beautiful men are our blessings as modern gay men, yet they can also be our biggest curses. The film reminds me that beauty fades and the gay male playground is only that a cold place to engage in adult pleasures. It also makes me realize the true worth of holding and being held by another man that loves & cares for me in the long term. A sobering film that is sometimes funny and sad with a subtle message to zip your pants and look for more in a partner that the perfect six pack.

BLU-RAY DVD OF A STAR IS BORN DO NOT FORGET RONALD HARVER

Judy Garland shines in this adaption of the often told story. The movie is a famous for its trouble production as the movie itself. What is not known to most people who grew up watching this film was that the film its self was cut by 30 minutes after it premiered. The effects on the film and Judy Garland herself took a toll. The movie in its shorten version made very little sense. The film lost many of Judy Garlands best scenes that she ever did. The film also lost some musical numbers.

In 1983 the movie was "RESTORED" as much as possible by the late Ronald Harver. Ron worked his ass off to find all the deleted footage. He turned Warner Brothers upside down to find all the missing footage. (In the 1950's it was not common practice to keep deleted scenes outtakes or alternated footage). With help of the AFI the Motion Picture Academy he was able to go coast to coast looking everywhere where any deleted footage might be. Some footage was never found but Ron Harver did a marvelous job using production stills to help complete the restoration this was done in 1983.

Its so sad is that Warner Brothers did not keep the deleted footage. The only reason why "Lose that Long Face" was restored was that in fact a film editor had stolen the negative. When A STAR IS BORN restoration was premiered without LOSE THAT LONG FACE re-inserted the editor was turned in by someone and I think he was fined or jailed. I am glad he had it though. The number is brilliant.

There is still about 8 minutes that can still be called missing. Rumors abound that after another 26 years after the first restoration that the final missing footage has been found. Again its rumors. The late Roddy McDowall has been rumored to have had this missing footage along with other missing footage from other movies.

In the very near future the movie will be released on Blu-Ray Dvd. I hope if there is a Making of special on the Blu-Ray that the efforts of Ronald Harver are not ignored. He was the true hero of this movie. He was a fan from the beginning. He always knew there were missing scenes from the movie. After growing up in Northern California he ended up working at AFI. To make a long story short he felt it was his mission in his life to help restore this movie. All the years as a fan of the movie were very helpful in his restoration. You can tell this movie in its restored format was restored with great love and attention. This movie would most likely not have me as a fan today if it were not for Ronald Harver.

So I am hoping that the Blu-ray DVD includes a story about him and all the work he did to help restore the movie. His passion for this movie was his gift to the world.
PS IF YOUR A FILM COLLECTOR WHO DOES HAVE THE MISSING FOOTAGE PLEASE CONTACT ME. THE MISSING FOOTAGE IS MISSING HOLLYWOOD HISTORY. IT COULD BE YOUR GIFT TO ALL AND FUTURE FANS OF JUDY GARLANDS. AFTER ALL YOU CAN BE COME A HERO

Ronald Harver I know you must be reading this in heaven so let me say "Thank You for your hard work". You are Hollywood's first SUPER HERO.

Nicollette Sheridan is needed on Desperate Housewives

Since Marc Cherry killed Edie off the ratings are down. The show still needs the actress Nicollette Sheridan more then Marc Cherry. Now this is how the can bring back Nicollette Sheridan.
In order to bring her back (Nicollette Sheridan ) the show can re-cast the actress (Nicollette Sheridan) as the nice sister of Edie (remember its a soap)but later on we find out that she is not the sister but Edie herself who is out to kill Susan.

THE WIZARD OF OZ RESTORED AGAIN THIS TIME FOR BLU-RAY DVD

Okay in the last 20 years I can think of lots of 5 times I herd the adds for an all new restored version of "THE WIZARD OF OZ". In 1989 there was the restoration done for the 50th anniversary. In that version the opening black and white footage was replace with the original Sepia-tone that was first shown when the movie premiered in 1939.

In 1994 MGM Home Video released yet another restored version on LASERDISC. Now to me it wasn't a much improvement over the 1989 50th anniversary laserdisc however the box set was full of goodies that still rival the today's blu-ray release. (More on that later)

In 1998 in time for the 60th Anniversary the movie was restored an re-issued again this time for a theatrical release. It was amazing to see it on the big screen however the movie was maybe brighter but again not a big deal. The first DVD was released in 1999 and the picture and sound were great. They were better then 1994 Laserdisc set that I had but it lacked all the extras the laserdisc had. A year or 2 Later when the rights to the WIZARD OF OZ fell to Warner Brothers there first  DVD set had lots of goodies but again not as much as my 1994 laserdisc box set.

Finally in 2005 Warner Brothers released an ultimate DVD set of this movie again RESTORED. This time there was a vast improvement on all previous vhs, laserdisc and dvd releases. They even had a great DVD set that rivaled the Laserdisc Set. Now its 2009 time for the 70th Anniversary restoration release.

Well this is a great movie and I thought that there is no way to make a blu-ray release look any better then the 2004 dvd release. Well I am wrong. The picture and sound are just mind blowing. Its hard to imagine that this movie is 70 years old.

Now the only thing I noticed that is different over the 2004 DVD release is that the devil is in the details. The background is sharp very sharp. This movie is a feast for the eyes. If you do not have a blu-ray player yet I advise you to get one. This blu-ray alone is worth buying the full blu-ray package.

Well worth the price!!!

I SUPPORT YOU BUT NOT GAY MARRIAGE

If your not gay you won't get it. If your gay you will. Everyday gay Americans deal with so much crap that you straight people will never understand or get.

Right now I am in New Orleans. Its okay here but just like anywhere else once you leave your home you have to deal with so much anti-gay bullshit. Co-workers who don't like you because yor gay. You hear someone say a gay joke. You hear someone say to someone "your gay.. that's gay"... "stupid fag" ... " On & On.

Now I also am tired of people saying Stan I support you but not gay marriage. Well "FUCK YOU". Married people get 1000's of tax breaks that gay couples don't. If I can't have a marriage then give me a civil union with the same tax breaks as a marriage has. Gay people want equal rights not special rights! By not supporting gay marriage then you don't support me. If you think about it straight people can get married but not gay people! So straight people have special rights already. End of story.

I have stated before that I have family members that say they "I DO NOT SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE but they support me". I am sick of that. Do you know how stupid that sounds. If they did support me then they would support gay marriage. If I sound pissed good I am!

Christmas is less then 3 months. For some reason I don't think I will see my family. I doubt most of them will miss me anyway because I won't miss them.

NBC SHOULD BRING BACK DESIGNING WOMEN

NBC has tried 3 times to bring back shows from the dead. Last year NBC has brought back "Knight Rider", & "The Bionic Woman". This year its "Parenthood".

ABC this year is bringing back the 1980's cult show "V". In the past they brought back "Fantasy Island" , & "Cupid".

CBS also brought back "Grapevine". The CW had success in bringing back "90210" that its now bringing back "Melrose Place". So hey NBC why not bring back "Designing Women".

NBC if you decide to bring back our ladies from ATLANTA you must remember why THE CW had success with the new version of "90210" and why NBC your attempts at other TV revamps failed. The reason is simple. The new "90210" did not ignore the original. It embraced it and brought in as guest the stars of the older version.

So in a nutshell bringing back "Designing Women" is a brilliant move if you decide to do it. The show will get a good demographic (women 18-49) and supply NBC with a hit show however you need to do this:

1) The original cast will all be back not just guest stars but as "THE STARS OF THE SHOW".

2) You must bring back the creator Linda Bloodsworth Thomason she knows those characters and "Designing Women" is a show that needs someone like Linda.

3) Bring back Pam Norris. She wrote great episodes but she needs to be watched closely by Linda!

4) If you want a younger cast then please put them in supporting roles..
By the way Jay Leno's 10:00 pm show sucks!

MICHAEL JACKSON

I am so sad that MJ has died. My heart aches. I have never felt this way about a celebrity deaths before. I think its because I feel guilty because I thought that MJ was a pedophile. Now of course I think he is innocent.

I do not care how this man died. It doesn't matter. He is dead. His music will live on but he is gone.

To me Michael will always be the man I saw sweep those Grammy Awards in 1984. He looked good and was amazing. Christmas of 1983 my favorite gift that year was "The Making of Thriller". It was a VHS that had the "Thriller" video on it along with a documentary.

Michael was put through the ringer over the past 16 years. He didn't deserve it. What is so sad I don't think Michael would of ever put his worse enemy through such an ordeal.

He was proven NOT GUILTY in 2005 but for some reason most people (including me) seem to think otherwise!! I know come to the conclusion that you were blackmailed.

Rest in peace Michael.

WHY I LOVE GEORGE FELTENSTEIN STAR IS BORN BLU RAY IS COMING

Who is George Feltenstein you may ask? Well if you love classic movies then George is your hero.
He works for Warner Brothers 9n the home video department! When Warner Brothers decides to release an older movies on dvd/blu-ray He makes sure his department can deliver a product worth owning. He also is a great supporter of releasing classic titles on home video. He knows there is a demand for almost any movie that has ever been made. Lets face it for every movie that has been made there is a fan of that film somewhere.

Now not every movie warrants a typical dvd release. It does cost money to market a dvd release. However Warner Brothers & George Feltenstein has started the Warner Archive. The archive is movies that have not been released on DVD. These movies are not well known to the general public but they do have an audience waiting for them. It maybe a small one however it is an audience that is willing to pay $20 for a DVD. What is so great is the Warner Brothers has the biggest library of movies. So every month there will be small gems that get released.

Every month Warner Brothers adds movies that you can order direct from them or watch it via instant download. You can burn a DVD from that download or for $5 more you can order a DVD direct from the WB Studio. I myself just bought "Freebie and the Bean" and will getting more soon.

Now George Feltenstein department right now is working on a 6k Restoration of the 1954 version of "A Star is Born".

In case you did not know in 1954 the movie was released at a running time of 3 hours. Theatre owners complained that it was too long. So Warner Brothers later recalled the released prints and trimmed the movie by 30 minutes. Then they did something stupid! They cut the original negative and threw away the 30 minutes from each print.

For years fans of the film were begging Warner Brothers to release the 3 hour version. When Judy Garland died in 1969 the demand for it grew even more. However the 3hr version by then was thought to be a "lost" forever.

In the early 1980's Ron Harver a fan of the movie was able to put back the movie to its almost original running time. He found the complete audio track but not a complete print of the film. However The movie musical numbers that were cut were found. The parts that were not found Ron inserted "STILL PICTURES". It was very invented and it did not distract from the movie.

Still that was in 1983 when that version was released. It went on to major success. However the missing dramatic scenes are rumored to still be "Out There" and they are not lost. At one time Roddy McDowell is rumored to have had the missing footage. Years after his death that seems to be what it was "A RUMOR"

In 1983 The highlight of the restored movie was the musical number was "Lose that Long Face". It is great number and I can not believe that it was cut. If you ever watch it please when "Lose that Long Face" comes up watch for the kid in the wash tub. He looks bored and out of place. Its funny.

Now last year WB said they were restoring the movie in the 6K format. This is a very knew format. What is funny is that when the original DVD was released in 1999 the studio said they would never restore the movie again "UNLESS ALL THE MISSING FOOTAGE HAD BEEN FOUND". So has the footage been found?

Now if it hasn't that's okay. The 1983 restoration is great. However I am so glad the George Feltenstein is involved with the upcoming blu-ray. It will be first class. I am a fan of Georges work because when he was at MGM he was involved in my favorite laserdisc box set. That of course was "The Wizard of Oz".

That set came out in 1994. It was $100 but well worth it. The extras that are now commen on today's DVD's were very ground breaking on the "ULTIMATE OZ" set. Now this wasn't the first laserdisc that had an audio commentary but it was one of the first to give us more then one type of commentary. Besides the audio commentary we got audio outtakes. Those outtakes are fascinating to listen too. The set also included the 50th Anniversary Special that was originally broadcast on TV. There was also vintage TV interviews with all of the major stars.

Years later those extra were Incorporated onto the DVD. That should tell you something. George knows what he is doing.

Now when it comes to "A Star is Born" it was to be released sometime this year. However it has been confirmed that it has been delayed until next year. That's okay. I know George must be a fan of this movie and wants the blu-ray to be ground breaking just like the "OZ" laserdisc.

I for one trust this man. Its delayed for a good reason. I say look for a teaser of whats going to be on the fourth coming blu-ray when "The Wizard of OZ" makes its blu-ray debut later this year.

Tv Should Bring Back Designing Women

"Designing Women" is one of my all time favorite shows. Recently the show finally made its DVD debut. A compilation DVD was released years ago but this is the first an entire season has made it to home video.

The show debut one year after "The Golden Girls". It was always compared to that show but in reality the only thing they had in common was a primary female cast.

Designing Women went off the air in 1993. However that doesn't mean the show is dated far from it. Yes there is the occasional "Topical Reference at the time" thrown in but in general the episodes seem like they were just made yesterday. In other words "The Show Holds Up".

This brings me to the reason why I am doing this post. I think its about time that Network TV should revive this show with the original cast.

It would not be hard to do. The show picks up 16 years after Sugarbakers has closed it doors.

Now think of the issues that can be explored with these women. "Retirement", "Loss of Pension", "Rebuilding a life", "Going back to work", "Competing with your past", "When do you stop parenting", "Saving a marriage", "Learning trust again", "Learning new tricks", "Fighting for what is right", "Trying to stay relevant", "Coping with sudden loss" etc. etc.

NBC you should think about it. You need a hit show.

MARC CHERRY DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES AND Nicollette Sheridan

I guess Marc Cherry and Nicollette Sheridan had a falling out. From the grapevine it has been said that Marc and Nicollette Sheridan had not seen eye to eye about Edie for a very long time. Things must of gotten bad for both of them because Marc killed off Edie Britt.

When I first herd that Marc was killing off Edie I thought that would be a mistake and the show would suffer but I would still watch the rest of the year to see if he had something special planned. Well I was wright the show has suffered. The shows without Edie have been BORING.

Yes Edie was not one of the Main Women on the show however she was the funnest one to watch. If Marc had to cut cost I think Susan was a character he should of killed off. I know her and Marsha Cross hate each other so why not get rid of Susan???

Face it people Susan has the same story every year! I am tired of her!

Now Marc should bring back Edie but how? IMO he could have that Edie faked her death because her husband was a PSYCHO. The police helped her fake her death. Also her son knew that his mom faked her death, He was mad when the women arrived at his college because now he is being roped into her life when he wanted nothing to do with her.

Peace Out

Stan

HALLOWEEN 2 H2 HII IT LOOKS GREAT

Okay I am the biggest fan of John Carpenter's "HALLOWEEN". I loved it when I saw it for the first time on HBO in 1980. In 1991 (when I bought my first laserdisc player) I started writing to IMAGE entertainment to get them to release the movie in the WIDESCREEN format. Well 3 years later they did. The LASERDISC cost me $100 (today I have seen on e-bay for $15) but it was worth every penny because I saw the movie the way it was meant to be seen. The movie even had an audio commentary from John Carpenter, Debra Hill & Jamie Lee Curtis. This same audio commentary was later imported to the 25Th Anniversary DVD.

I was mad as hell when I herd Rob Zombie was doing a re-make. When I saw it I did not like it at all. To me the movie need more work. All of the characters all sounded like white trash. I still stand by that statement.

Now I have just seen a coming attraction for H2. Yes Rob Zombie is doing the sequel but this does look like it will be good. I sure hope it is. The last good Halloween Movie was H20 and that was in 1998.

THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO IS HISTORY

It doesn't seem its been 17 years since Johnny Carson said goodbye. I must admit I still miss the old Carson show but I did warm up to Jay and I will miss him.

Now I am in minority when it comes to who should of gotten the TONIGHT SHOW when Carson left. I always thought it should of been Jay. After all I thought it was obvious NBC wanted him. Think about it don't you think that is why NBC had him host every Monday Night for a few years before he got the TONIGHT SHOW full time. I wasn't shocked when they took him over Lettermen.

I did not watch Jay Leno for a long time. I watched Arsenio Hall. When Letterman came on I watched him. It wasn't until 1998 that I started watching Jay. The reason why I started watching him was that I saw him a couple of times in public and he was waving to people and shaking hands. He was being a nice guy. That won me over and I was watching his show over Dave ever since.

I wish him all the best. I think NBC pushing him off THE TONIGHT SHOW was a mistake but Jay will be fine. Late Night however will start belonging to CBS. Conan is just to freaky.

Any News on "A STAR IS BORN" missing footage.

I have contacted Warner Brothers about the missing footage that might of been found but so far they have not returned my calls.

MISS CALIFORNIA IS ANTI GAY AND A BIGOT

She takes topless pictures. She gets fake boobs. Colors her hair! She wins Miss California. I love the fact the pageant is to celebrate a woman's inter beauty.

I herd Miss California is telling people she is victim of child abuse. Something tells me she is a liar. She has a history of that already.

She wants to gain support. Well not from me she won't! To quote Wanda Sykes "I hope her kidneys fail"

March 2013 I wonder whatever happened to this bitch?

JUDY GARLAND A STAR IS BORN 6K RESTORATION

A STAR IS BORN 6K RESTORATION is coming in 2010. The question is does it have the missing footage? The 1983 restoration that was done by Ronald Harver is a must see. What is so sad is that not all of the missing footage was found. To bridge the gap (where the footage was missing) Ronald Harver used still pictures. THAT WORKED AND it did not distract from the movie. Now in 2010 (27 Years after the first restoration) Warner Brothers will release the film again in an all new transfer for the blu-ray DVD. Rumors are floating around that Warners has in their possession the missing footage that 1983 release did not have! If so hurray!

I hope the movie does get a limited theatrical release I will be there!

MAN OF THE YEAR : Dirk Shafer A Must see

Now go rent the movie!!!! Keep a close eye on the lady that plays the talk show host "CINDEE".

Now If only they do a Special Edition DVD. The movie is now out of print so if you can get it now from anywhere get it!
