As much as I love "Superman II" the Richard Donner Edition I just can't help it to think that the end result should of been better. I was very happy that after years of begging the fans were able to get Warner Brothers to release THIS edition of"Superman II". This edition is known as The Richard Donner Cut. The director was able to restore his vision of the movie. In case you didn't know Richard Donner was fired before he could complete it. Director Richard Lester was hired to finish it in 1979. Now 30 years later Donner has returned to finish his edition. To read more on the controversy please check it out on http://www.wikipedia.com/. Now the new edition of the movie suffers a little because it leaves out scenes that Richard Lester shot. Who would of thought that Richard Donner's edition of this movie would suffer because he edited out Richard Lester footage? The movie is still very enjoyable. Now if everybody set aside their egos they can put together a better edition. A better editionof the movie would have to include the following:
1) More footage from Niagra Falls.
2) More footage from East Houston include the boy meeting his demise
3) More footage from all the Daily Planet Scenes
4) Reincorporate some of Richard Lester's Daily Planet Reaction shots
during the Metropolis Battle.
6) Lex being taken away by the police
7) Lex 2nd getaway from prison
8) Put in the bully in the hallway
10) Re-edit the ending. Have Lois remember Clark is Superman
Forget who shot what. Just please don't forget re-insert the scene where the boy gets killed by NON. This scene however has only been shown on TV and is not on the Lester or Donner edition.
