On February 13, 1991 "Sleeping with the Enemy" and "Silence of the Lambs" opened up on the same day in movie theatres across the country. Now what is remarkable is the following:
BOTH were rated "R" and had females as the leads
BOTH were horror movies going after the same audience
BOTH movies were made for $19,000,000 each
BOTH movies took in over $100,000,000 at the Box Office
BOTH movies took in over $13,000,000 on their opening weekend.
What a difference 16 years make! Julia Roberts now gets $20,000,000 a movie. That's more money then the entire cost "Sleeping with the Enemy", "Steel Magnolias" & "Pretty Woman".
Each of those movies cost between $16,000,000 to $19,000,000.
Last week "Hannibal Rising" opened. It cost $80,000,000 to make. It took in apx $12,000,000. on 2000 screens. "Silence of the Lambs" if you adjust the gross to inflation
it will adjust to $21,000,000 on just 1400 screens!
Something to think about
