THE 1998 PSYCHO REMAKE REVIEW BY STAN HECK

This remake to me was not a bad idea. In fact I lover the fact that director Gus Van Sant was using the original screenplay. However what I think went wrong with his film was that he didn't change hardly anything. He should of updated the dialog. He should of change some directions (the actors copied almost everything from the original). Most of all the whole first act should of been changed.

A woman running after a man is believable however what is not believable is that a woman of 1998 would meet a man in secret. They would of been fucking in her house.

Also the casting of Vince Vaughn was just wrong. Gus should of cast (the time ) Edward Furlong or "Edward Furlong Type".

What is also funny is that this movie did not remake the original theatrical cut of 1960. What they did was a remake of the Television Cut. What was left on the cutting room floor was

a) The 2nd meeting with the sheriff and his wife at a church

b) The 2nd half of the Psychiatrist talk at the end of the movie.

In all I like the effort behind the movie. I do not think its a bad idea to remake a movie and use the same screenplay. I think if you remake a movie and use the same screenplay then please keep the movie in the era in which it was originally made. The remake of Psycho would of been better had they kept the movie in 1960!
