HITCHCOCK OR THE MAKING OF PSYCHO MY REVIEW

-
I am a huge fan of  "Psycho".  The 1960 Classic is one of my favorite films of all time.  In fact I don't a year goes by without me watching it.  When the Sequel "Psycho II" in 1983 I was there opening night.  I laughed when  I noticed I was the youngest person in the audience.  I was 16 at the time.

Now because I am huge fan of the film I know the making of the film.  I must read 6  or books that covered all or part of the production or making of this film.  I won't say I am an expert but I will say I know more about the production of this film then almost any other that has ever been made.

With that being said I just got done watching the 2012 film "Hitchcock" and its all about the Making of the film "Psycho".  However the film is based on the well respect book written by Stephen Rebello.  However the film makers change so many things around that (if your like me) almost makes the film un-watchable.

A better film could been made.  When "Psycho" was made it was the end an era of the old Hollywood System.  TV had caused people to abandon movie theaters and "Psycho" was a film that drove people back to the theaters.  An opportunity that the film makers do not even try to tell.  What we do get is a sub-plot about Alma Hitchcock (Helen Mirren) being tired of living in the directors long casting shadow.  We also get a fictional account on how ALfred Hitchcok would of lost his home had "Psycho" been a box office bomb.

HItchcock may have financed the film "Psycho" however if the film failed he would not of lost his home.  This
part of the film I found outlandish.  I also think in order to get a A-List Star the studio beefed up the part of ALma Hitchcock. When watch the film you could zap through almost any scene that has Alma without Hitch in fact I recommend that.

The film however will not disappoint the average film watcher. It has great performances and has its own weird charm. It Runs at a brisk  98 Minutes.

If you do watch this film remember its not the real story.  Its "Hollywood folklore "
