Movies that are too Long.... "King Kong" The Peter Jackson Edition

Both of these films of course are remakes.  Both however were too long.  The 1976 Edition was an  offender as well but it was EVENTUALLY  edited by 30 minutes prior to its theatrical release.  This was not the case with the Peter Jackson Film.

Universal Smelled Big Money when Peter Jackson made this film. He was just coming off the hugely profitable "Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and had wanted to make "King Kong" for years.    After years of stops and starts Peter Jackson was finally able to make his dream film.

Now everyone already knows the story of "King Kong".   We all know how it ends before we even bought a ticket. We also knew the story of "Titanic"   and how that ends.  That film ran just as long as "King Kong" however "Titanic" gave us a different take on the often told story of the sinking of the mighty ship.  Most every scene in "Titanic" was a revelation of sorts.  "King Kong:" on the other hand added meaningless back-story's.  Had Peter Jackson not had the success of the "LOTR" films I am sure that Universal Suits would had Mr Jackson condense the screenplay long before the first frame of film was shot!

The story of "King Kong" should of started with the Jack Black running down the street with his movie in his hand after stealing it away from producers.

Ann Darrow also could of already been on the boat. It would of been fun as an auidence member to see why this fan was running. .  A little more sharpening of the screenplay would of made a huge difference.

Now the film did take in $500,000,000 Worldwide.  That is far from being a bomb but its still a disappointment considering that each "Lord of the Rings" films did almost twice the amount.

The film barely broke even.    I think had Mr Jackson turned in a film that was SHORTER he would of had a much better result.
