ALPHA DOG: THE JESSE JAMES HOLLYWOOD STORY REVIEW BY STAN HECK

Okay I grew up in California. I lived in Oxnard from 1967-1994. I then moved to the San Fernando Valley until early 2003. So I am very familiar with the story of Jesse James Hollywood. I was glad he was caught however onto my review.

First of all the movie changes the names of everybody. It also changes to locations of the crime(s). That is not that big of a deal but when you know a story so well you can't help to wonder why they would change so much when the facts to the story or so well known.

Now my biggest problem with the movie is just a minor thing. Now as far as I could tell the movie takes place in 1999. Now January 1, 1998 California past a law that you could not smoke inside public places. This included bars & restaurant's. I know it makes things more dramatic if your character's smoke but to have them smoke on screen when it was illegal to do makes me want to say "HEY MOVIE MAKERS DO YOUR HOMEWORK".

Now the movie is well worth seeing. In fact I think it makes a great anti-drug statement. (Nothing good comes out of making things illegal). Justin Timberlake does a great job and from the looks of it he has a great career as an actor in front of him.

The movie is an eye opener. Its very disturbing at times. Try to think that this is the WEST COAT EDITION OF THE MOVIE "KIDS".

Now what is great about this movie is that it doesn't sugar coat anything. Nobody develops a moral compass. It lets the viewer decide whats write and whats wrong. That is something only brave filmmakers do.
