Don't let the news or the Warner Brothers publicity fool you. Ocean's 13 may have opened at #1 at the box office however it is the biggest disappointment for a #1 movie since last years "Mission Impossible 3". What they have in common is middle age men hanging on to a movie career. Now "Ocean's" most likely do $100m but its not the $200m that Warner Brothers was banking on!
Now here is the truth Ocean's 13 open to less business then the original Ocean's 11. In fact this movie opened to less business than the other 2 movies. What is amazing is that Ocean's 13 opened in more theatres. Take in account ticket inflation Warner Brothers must be very disappointed. There was no shortage of press for the movie. However was there too much press?
The movie had 3 premieres. George, Matt, and Angelina's boyfriend did make the press circuit but what happened?
Could it be that this was the 3rd movie in the Oceans series? Could it be that the audience is very tired of sequels? After all this is "Ocean's 3". The audience has already been hit with
"Pirates 3" "Shrek 3" and "Spiderman 3". Maybe this is why "Knocked Up" is still doing well because of the fact its not a sequel!
If you think the sequels are over for the Summer your wrong. There is still sequels coming at us. They are "The Bourne Ultimatum", "Rush Hour 3", "Evan Almighty" to name a few.
Hollywood must be worried. They have spent a small fortune on those upcoming films. I am willing to bet that if one of these movies bomb big time heads are going to roll at the studio. Maybe Hollywood will get the message that the public wants more original movies!
