JIMMY DEAN REUNION MUST INCLUDE MARK PATTON

"Come Back to the 5 & Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" should be released on DVD. Its the movie that proved that Cher could act. It was also a big break for Kathy Bates. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Broadway play (which opened and closed almost overnight) & the movie.

Well god only knows why this movie hasn't had a DVD release. What is so remarkable is that its directed by Robert Altman so where is the DVD?

Well a brief history of the VIDEO release is that in 1983 Embassy Home Video held the rights. Embassy had them for years. The second video release was from J2 communications. They have since gone into bankruptcy. So maybe the home video rights are tied up in Bankruptcy court. Upon reading the credits and the end of the movie I saw that SHOWTIME (the pay Channel) was one of the producers so maybe they now own the video rights. In case you did not know Showtime is part of the VIACOM family.

SINCE VIACOM owns Showtime VIACOM might own this movie. PARAMOUNT PICTURES is also owned by VIACOM Which in turn that maybe Paramount Home Video might have (or in the future) have the rights to release the movie on DVD.

Now if they do a SPECIAL EDITION DVD they should have a Reunion of the surviving cast members. In the 25 years since the films release Sandy Dennis (MONA) & Sudie Bond (Juanita) have passed on. If they have a reunion of the cast members it MUST include Cher, Karen Black, Kathy Bates but most of all, they MUST INCLUDE MARK PATTON.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The role Mark plays is ground breaking. It was the first time a movie gave the audience a positive role model of a TRANSGENDER person. The movie portrayed Joe (then later Joanne) with No Holds Barred. The character of Joe/Joanne was proud of her transformation and in turn was the happiest person in the movie.

Mark he is however better remembered for "Nightmare on Elm St Part 2" with most audience members however people who love "Jimmy Dean", they know Mark owns the scenes he is in! He was outstanding. No questions about it.

Mark WHEREVER you are if they get around to a "JIMMY DEAN" reunion make sure your a part of it. You are a part of movie history and should be proud of that.
UPDATE MARK HAS PUT HIS REMARKS HERE: ALSO NOTE THERE IS STILL NO PLANS FOR A DVD RELEASE

Thank You, that was very nice. It is true that I stopped working because I was gay. I wish I would have hung on and been a better pioneer. Life is strange, I became a Decorator and now live in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. My partner and I own a store named Lalo Morales. I go by Edward now as I am not so happy talking about my acting past. I too loved Jimmy Dean and if they ever do anything in regards to that film, I hope I am included. I always thought it was stange that I wasn{t asked to be on the interview section of Nightmare on Elm Street. Thanks again for you very nice posts. Sincerly, Mark Patton

Mark/Edward I did not "out you on my blog". I am so sorry if you think that I did.

So you live in Mexico? How long?
