BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES SHOULD BE REMADE AS A MINI-SERIES

Hollywood screw up the film adaption of the beloved book "Bonfire of the Vanities".  The casting was way-off and the choice of director was wrong wrong wrong.  The film adaption also changed so much of the book that it is surprising that they even made the film to begin with.  The film however became one of biggest bombs (at the time) in Hollywood History.  Production cost was $50,000,000 (in 1990 that was huge)  and it grossed less then $15,000,000.  The film however maybe long gone but the book and a future adaption could soon be upon us ... well I hope it is anyway.  If so may I suggest a few things...

The Next adaption of this book should keep the setting in the 1980's.  It was the "Reagan Era" and the smugness of the era is littered throughout the book.   Also when the changed the reporter from British to American it lost  its "OUTSIDERS VIEW POINT".

Maria Ruskin should stay true to they way Thomas Wolfe created her.  Reese Witherspoon would be great.

This adaption of the book should be made but this time for HBO or Showtime.   A 2 hour movie isn't enough.  A 3-5 hour mini series would be the correct approach.  Also this time no heavy handed director.  The adaption should be directed by  someone that knows how to score laughs that are not written.  May I suggest "Jay Roach" "Richard Curtis" or "Steven Soderbergh".  Now who should adapt it well I am going to say "Tina Fey".   She could handle this and do it well.  I would also cast her as Sherman's wife.

Now who to cast as Sherman... Well I think Matt Damon would be great.

Jude Law  or Colin Farrell for Peter Fallow.
