Let's Stop Bath Mouthing Michael Cimino Heaven's Gate Did Not Bring Down UA (United Artist)

Michael Cimino is unfairly blamed for bringing down  the beloved Hollywood Film Studio "United Artist".  Now UA did not go broke after "Heaven's Gate".  Yes the film was a box office H-Bomb however the Owners of UA (Transamerica) was losing money on United Artist. Before the film was released UA was in the process of being sold!

Tranamerica no  longer wanted to be in the film business seeing how the cost of films seem to be rising and out of control!    So when "Heaven's Gate" became an out of control production and the budget growing from $8,000,000 to $40,000,000 the owners freaked out and put the studio up for sale!

Transamerica was already in the process of selling "United Artist" to the owner of MGM which happened to be at the time Kirk Kerkorian. Now while in "Escrow" Kirk Kerkorian paid an additional $40,000,000 for United Artist.   Transamerica recovered its investment in "Heaven;s Gate" UA was then folded into MGM and the studio was renamed MGM/UA.   UA Never went broke!  It was just sold off!

I wish I could talk to Michael Cimino.  He is a wrongly accused villain in Hollywood History!  The truth again is the company that owned UA no longer wanted to own the studio and sold it before "Heaven's Gate" was released.
