Now yes "Star Wars" is more popular but "American Graffiti" is a superior film. The film helped kick off the "1950's Nostalgia Craze" which led to ABC to run "Happy Days" which that show spun-off "Mork and Mindy" and "Laverne and Shirley". Plus because of the success of these projects it got Paramount Pictures to produced the beloved musical "Grease".
Now what was groundbreaking about "American Graffiti" was the fact that it use older songs in the soundtrack to set the mood of a scene. Also there is no "SOUNDTRACK" just popular songs.
Also this was the first time 4 semi-connect stories where told in one movie. This format set the standard on how most tv shows are told now.
The film was also had an amazing cast that seem to pop up on almost every movie or tv-show in the 1970's and 1980's. In fact this film has "Harrison Ford" which led him to be cast in "Star Wars".
If you have never seen the film GO RENT IT. The film is one of the greatest achievements in films!
